Hypertronics to supply military connectors for FCS armored vehicle applications
HUDSON, Mass., 14 May 2009. Hypertronics Corp. in Hudson, Mass., will supply custom military connectors to the traction drive systems (TDS) in armored combat vehicles of the U.S. Army's Future Combat Systems (FCS) program, under terms of a contract with BAE Systems.
The armored vehicle family of eight armored vehicles is the first Army suite of ground tactical vehicles to use hybrid electric drive technology. The TDS is a common platform assembly that will provide tactical vehicle propulsion, steering and braking, and regenerate electrical power from braking and downhill grades for vehicle electrical systems -- particularly for FCS systems.
Hypertronics will supply a customized interconnect system for the custom power electronics on the common manifold assembly of the TDS that distributes and controls power from the main electric generator power source to the TDS high voltage battery pack and other vehicle sub assemblies. The hybrid electric drive system will improve fuel economy, reduce overall weight and volume and generate electric power.
