MERCERVILLE, N.J., 16 June 2009.Laser weapon designers at Laser Energetics Inc. in Mercerville, N.J., are introducing a non lethal weapons laser called the Dazer Laser that can disable people by causing dizziness, nausea, and temporary blindness.

The military laser-grade weapon mounts to rifles and shotguns, and can disable potential terrorists, pirates, criminals, and rioters -- even if the subjects' eyes are shut -- from as far away as 1.5 miles.

This non lethal laser emits an eye-safe green 1-by-8-foot laser beam, and is for all branches of the military, law enforcement, correctional facilities, security, border patrol, control, homeland security, airport security, and similar applications.

The company is introducing two models. The defender has a larger-diameter beam and is effective at distances longer than one mile. The Guardian has a smaller-diameter beam and operates at ranges about as long as a football field.

The two non lethal laser weapons can be used in daylight or at night, as well as in light rain, snow, or fog. They also can function as search lights when operating in non-weapons mode. The laser weapons should be available by late summer or early fall.
