IP67-qualified rugged data acquisition for CANbus systems in high temperatures introduced by HBM SoMat

URBANA, Ill., 14 July 2010. The HBM Inc. SoMat Products segment in Urbana, Ill, is introducing the cDAQ rugged mobile CAN-based data acquisition modules for use in engine enclosures, gearboxes, pumps, power generation, and other industrial applications. The all-weather 35-by-217-by-50-millimeter cDAQ modules are engineered to operate in temperatures from -40 to 125 degrees Celsius with an IP67 degree of protection to enable users to take measurements in difficult test objects directly.

URBANA, Ill., 14 July 2010. The HBM Inc. SoMat Products segment in Urbana, Ill, is introducing the cDAQ rugged mobile CANbus-based data acquisition modules for use in engine enclosures, gearboxes, pumps, power generation, and other industrial applications in severe environments.

The all-weather 35-by-217-by-50-millimeter cDAQ rugged data acquisition modules are engineered to operate in temperatures from -40 to 125 degrees Celsius with an IP67 degree of protection to enable users to take measurements in difficult test objects directly.

The cDAQ modules are compatible with CAN ISO 11898 2.0B-based systems or vehicle networks, and have a selectable baud rate from 20 kilobits per second to 1 megabit per second. Several modules can be connected through the CANbus over distances as far as 250 meters. The modules are powered using a simplified DC power source from 8 to 36 volts that is applied to the first module and is then distributed through the rest of the network.

The cDAQ modules are optimized to interface with HBM's SoMat eDAQ or eDAQlite rugged mobile data acquisition systems, although they can interface with any CAN network.

The cDAQ-ITC module is available in 16-channel isolated thermocouple configurations for K-, J-, or T-type thermocouples. Each channel has individual cold junction compensation isolated at up to 500 volts with an accuracy of plus-or-minus 0.5 C.

Selectable sample rates are available for each channel from 0.1 to 15 Hz. The cDAQ-ITC also has digital and analog filtering to remove high frequency signal components above 50 Hz and notches at 50 Hz and 60 Hz to prevent aliasing at the power line frequency bands.
