Optical communications interface board for 800-megabytes-per-second recording and playback introduced by Conduant
LONGMONT, Colo., 31 Aug. 2010. Conduant Corp. in Longmont, Colo., is introducing the StreamStor optical high speed serial mezzanine board that when combined with the StreamStor Amazon Express controller can support recording and playback performance as fast as 800 megabytes per second for military, scientific research, and commercial applications.
The optical interface board product can be used with compatible StreamStor controllers to provide direct data input using Serial Front Panel Data Port (sFPDP) and other protocols including bonded and multi-channel versions of the SeriaLite II fast point-to-point interconnect for linking field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) from Altera Corp. in San Jose, Calif.
The StreamStor supports independent multi-port recording and playback for as many as four data streams. Some protocols support the bonding of all four channels to aggregate the performance for one channel at higher speed. An on-board Altera FPGA allows for configuring several input/output protocols.
The board can be ordered with support for data rates from 1.06 to 3.125 gigabytes per second and wavelengths of 850 or 1300 nanometers to support cable as long as 25 kilometers. The board uses standard LC optical connector style for easy connection to compatible data sources. For more information contact Conduant online at www.conduant.com.
