Altera FPGA-based 40/100-gigabit CFP transceiver board for SIGINT and data mining introduced by Annapolis Micro

ANNAPOLIS, Md., 11 May 2011. Annapolis Micro Systems Inc. in Annapolis, Md., is introducing the Dual 40/100-gigabit CFP transceiver board for IBM BladeCenter, which captures and processes data in real time for network security, signals intelligence (SIGINT), and data mining applications. The board's enabling technologies are the 11.3-gigabit-per-second high-speed transceivers in the Stratix IV field-programmable gate array (FPGA) from Altera Corp. in San Jose, Calif.Annapolis designers blended two CFP interfaces into the company's Dual 40/100-gigabit CFP transceiver board to help capture, buffer, and process, or transmit two 100-gigabit Ethernet streams per card or six 40-gigabit Ethernet streams per card. The board’s CFP transceiver cage interfaces can support 100-gigabit Ethernet, 40-gigabit Ethernet, 100-gigabit OTU4, 40-gigabit SDH/OTU3, and QDR Infiniband protocols.The board relies on one or two Altera Stratix IV GT EP4S100G5 FPGAs, as much as 36 gigabytes of DDR3 DRAM arranged in as many as eight 72-bit ports, and a 160x160 high-speed crossbar to buffer and pre-process data at full speed from the CFP interfaces before sending the data on to the Annapolis WILDSTAR 5 Blade for IBM BladeCenter.

The Dual CFP transceiver board connects to the WILDSTAR 5 Blade with 68 high-bandwidth full duplex serial I/O connections to receive data as quickly as 240 gigabits per second. The Dual 40/100-gigabit CFP transceiver board includes Ethernet MACs for 40-gigabit and 100-gigabit Ethernet, standard VHDL models, drivers, and APIs.

Pluggable CFP transceivers are available to support 100-gigabit or 40-gigabit Ethernet (802.3ba), 100-gigabit (OTU4), and 40-gigabit (SDH/OTU3) for telecommunications, tri- channel 40-gigabit Ethernet streams, or for QDR Infiniband streams.
