GROTON, Conn. 21 May 2011. U.S. Navy officials selected General Dynamics Electric Boat -- a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD) -- to develop advanced technologies for current and future submarine programs.
Electric Boat engineers will conduct submarine research and development studies for survivability, manufacturability, maintainability, submarine acoustics and materials, and hydrodynamics. Manning, hull integrity, ship control, performance, weapons handling, logistics, and safety will be looked at as well.
The award also supports identification of Ohio-class replacement technology options, near-term Virginia-class technology insertion, core technologies, and future submarine concepts.
The contract is worth 711.4 million over five years if all options are fudned and exercised.
