3U OpenVPX Gigabit Ethernet processors for video and networking in UAVs and ground vehicles introduced by GE

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., 19 Aug. 2011. GE Intelligent Platforms in Charlottesville, Va., is introducing the 3U OpenVPX-REDI GFG500 Gigabit Ethernet video processor and the 3U OpenVPX-REDI MCP500 processor for demanding video and network processing applications operating in harsh environments such as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and ground vehicles. The embedded computing boards use the Tilera TILEPro64 many-core processor. The GFG500 is pre-loaded with GE's algorithms for capturing and processing several simultaneous video streams from Gigabit Ethernet.

GE Intelligent Platforms in Charlottesville, Va., is introducing the 3U OpenVPX-REDI GFG500 Gigabit Ethernet video processor and the 3U OpenVPX-REDI MCP500 processor for demanding video and network processing applications operating in harsh environments such as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and ground vehicles.

The embedded computing boards use the Tilera TILEPro64 many-core processor. The GFG500 is pre-loaded with GE's algorithms for capturing and processing several simultaneous video streams from Gigabit Ethernet. The MCP500, meanwhile, is a general-purpose many-core processor to accelerate software applications through multiprocessing in network-centric applications such as packet processing, intrusion detection, deep packet inspection, unified threat management, network monitoring, and forensics in tactical wireline and wireless environments.

The Tilera TILEPro64 700 MHz processor at the heart of the GFG500 and MCP500 features an 8-by-8 grid of 64 general-purpose processor cores for image processing and networking. It uses the natural parallelism inherent in applications such as pixel and frame parallel video, session and packet parallel network, and channel parallel wireless.

Both processor boards also include four banks of 512-megabyte DDR2 800 SDRAM together with two 10 Gigabit Ethernet XAUI interfaces and two 4-lane PCI Express interfaces configurable as root complex or end point mode.
