Silicon Designs debuts 60 Series universal MEMS capacitive accelerometer modules

Silicon Designs Inc., a supplier of rugged MEMS capacitive accelerometer chips and modules with integral amplification, has introduced its 60 Series with eight different models in single axis and triaxial versions with measurement ranges from 2g to 400g. The new rugged sensors are designed to provide reliable high-precision shock, vibration, and acceleration measurements across various aerospace, power generation, and test and measurement applications.The new 60 Series designs combine either a single model or three orthogonally block-mounted models within an epoxy seam-sealed anodized aluminum housing. Silicon Designs' in-house manufacturing and testing processes, and its incorporation of additive micromachining and integrated circuit (IC) technology, result in a reliable MEMS (microelectromechanical) capacitive sensor for zero- to medium-frequency instrumentation applications, says a representative. The company's proprietary manufacturing technology enables on-board voltage regulation and an internal voltage reference, making units relatively insensitive to temperature and voltage changes and eliminating the need for external power amplification and regulation.

All modules can be mounted to a test article or fixture via glue, epoxy, or two #8 or M4 screws, says a spokesperson.
