Lockheed Martin awards Curtiss-Wright Controls Electronic Systems with contract to provide Vortex Compact Network Storage (CNS) for the HC/MC-130J Super Hercules special mission aircraft

PARSIPPANY, NJ, November 3, 2011. Curtiss-Wright Corporation (NYSE: CW) today announced that it has received a contract from Lockheed Martin Aeronautics to provide Vortex Compact Network Storage (CNS) subsystems used in the Network File Server (NFS) for the U.S. Air Force Air Combat Command’s HC/MC-130J Super Hercules special mission aircraft.

The Vortex CNS is a rugged, conduction-cooled, high-performance NFS device that enables critical data to be shared over the aircraft’s internal network. The initial contract, which began in August 2011 is valued at $800 thousand. The contract’s potential value over the lifetime of the program is estimated at $10 million.

Curtiss-Wright’s Vortex CNS supports industry-standard network protocols including CIFS, NFS, HTTP, FTP, and PXE. It is designed to optimize file sharing in military platforms deployed in harsh environments. Data is stored securely on solid state memory and encrypted with the AES-256 algorithm.

The HC/MC-130J Super Hercules is an extended range transport aircraft designed for special missions such as search and rescue (SAR) and combat search and rescue (CSAR).
