Rackmount data recorder for capturing radar and communications signals introduced by Pentek
UPPER SADDLE RIVER, N.J., 31 Aug. 2012.Pentek Inc. in Upper Saddle River, N.J., is introducing the Talon RTS 2709 ultra-wideband RF/IF rackmount data recorder for capturing high bandwidth RF/IF signals with frequencies as high as 2.8 GHz for capturing wideband signals for communications or radar applications.
The data recorder uses 12-bit, 3.6 GHz A/D converters and solid state drive storage for sustained recording rates as fast as 3.2 gigabytes per second. It can be configured as a one- or two-channel system and can record sampled data packed as 8-bit or 16- bit wide consecutive samples.
The built-in Windows 7 Professional workstation with an Intel Core i7 processor can host post-processing and analysis applications on the recorder itself. Signal viewing and analysis tools are provided as part of the SystemFlow recording software for monitoring signals prior to, during, and after a recording session.
"Previously, if a wideband signal needed to be captured, you had to break up the signal into smaller bands, each covering an adjacent slice of the spectrum," says Pentek Vice President Rodger Hosking. "Now engineers can capture the whole spectrum in one channel for the entire bandwidth."
The RTS 2709 streams this digitized data to files created on the recorder's built-in RAID array. These files include time stamping as well as recording parameters and optional GPS information. Files are stored in the native Windows NTFS format for use on PCs.
The recorder moves data to solid-state drives through SATA-III ports, and offers configuration options to support as much as 20 terabytes of storage. The drives are hot-swappable and can be configured in several NTFS RAID levels, including 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, and 50.
The RTS 2709 is configured in a 4U 19-inch rack-mountable chassis, with front-panel USB ports and I/O connectors on the rear panel. Systems are scalable to accommodate several chassis to increase channel counts and aggregate data rates. All recorder chassis are connected via gigabit Ethernet and can be controlled from one graphic user interface locally or from a remote PC.
