STRATFORD, Conn., 28 Sept. 2012. Sikorsky Aircraft Corp., an aircraft manufacturer based in Stratford, Conn. and a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX), will be providing the U.S. Army with additional UH-60M Plus-Up helicopters and support for Black Hawk systems in a series of three contract modifications. These modifications total to $533 million.

The modifications are being made to an $8.5 billion order from July 2012.

The UH-60M Black Hawk helicopter is a four-bladed, twin-engine medium-lift utility helicopter. The design for the original Black Hawk was submitted in 1972, and was first used by the U.S. Army in 1979 as a tactical transport helicopter. Since its entry into service, the original UH-60A Black Hawk has seen use in conflicts in Panama, Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia and many other combat zones.

The new orders, which come from two different contracts, are for 40 additional UH-60M helicopters. Work for these contracts will be completed in either Stratford, Conn., or West Palm Beach, Fla.
