Rugged data storage for high-resolution imagery, video, and radar data introduced by Phoenix
SAN DIEGO, 31 Jan. 2013.Rugged data storage specialist Phoenix International Systems Inc. in Orange, Calif., introduced the rugged RPC24 4000 information storage system for bandwidth-intensive data recording applications, such as high resolution imagery, video recording, and radar data acquisition.
Phoenix introduced the new rugged data storage system for aerospace and defense applications this week at the AFCEA West conference and trade show in San Diego. The RPC24 4000 is an evolution of the 2012 released RPC24, and delivers 99.999 percent availability, company officials say.
The RPC24 4000 offers speeds to 5,200 megabytes per second of sustained sequential read throughput, a 2.5 times increase over the previous generation 3000, and speeds to 3,500 megabytes per second of sustained sequential write performance.
For demanding transaction-oriented applications, such as cloud storage and business analytics, the RPC24 4000 delivers 100,000 IOPS sustained from disk for fast access to database and structured data content, and up to 650,000 IOPS from cache.
The RPC24 4000 scales up to 192 drives and enables systems designers to mix drive types, including HDD and SSD. The Phoenix SimulCache technology capitalizes on redundant RAID controllers to eliminate the performance degradation associated with conventional cache mirroring.
The implementation of a high-speed dedicated PCI-Express bus streamlines write performance. Dual-redundant RAID controllers, dual power supplies, and dual fans help reduce or eliminate downtime or data loss.
With a capacity of 24 drives, the RPC24 4000 includes two magazines containing as many as 12 solid-state disk or hard disk drives, each housed in rugged 2U panel height, 19.5-inch deep enclosure. It provides as many as eight host ports of Fibre Channel to SAS or SATA devices over a 12 gigabits SAS internal bus.
Incorporating aluminum and steel in its construction, the RPC24 4000 weighs 51 pounds with 4 solid-state drives, is less than 20 inches deep, and is certified to military specifications MIL-STD-810G and MIL-STD-461E.
