Navy security experts ask Navmar to develop biometrics security for Patuxent River NAS

JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST, N.J., 10 Feb. 2014. U.S. Navy security authorities needed a biometrics system to control access to sensitive areas of Patuxent River Naval Air Station, Md. They found their solution from Navmar Applied Sciences Corp. (NASC) in Warminster, Pa.

Officials of the Naval Air Warfare Center at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J., announced a $12.5 million contract to NASC on Friday to develop a Biometric Identity Approval Sentinel.

Navy security authorities will use the Biometric Identify Approval Sentinel technology from NASC to processes individuals rapidly for threat detection and biometric matching.

Biometrics refers to identifying people by their biological characteristics, such as their fingerprints, faces, and irises and retinas of their eyes. Biometric identification systems are extremely difficult to fool.

This Biometric Identity Approval Sentinel that NASC will develop for the Navy will provide an integrated, accurate, configurable, and deployable solution that combines current and new technologies to increase the safety, speed, and efficiency of access control at Patuxent River NAS.

The facilities at Patuxent River are extremely sensitive. The base is home to Naval Air Systems Command, and much of the nation's combat aircraft technology is developed, managed, or procured from this facility.

For this contract NASC will do the work at Patuxent River NAS, Md., and should be finished by February 2017.
