Rugged VPX Gigabit Ethernet switch for upgrading military electronics introduced by Curtiss-Wright

ASHBURN, Va., 26 March 2014. The Curtiss-Wright Corp. Defense Solutions division in Ashburn, Va., is introducing the VPX3-652 Gigabit Ethernet switch module for upgrading aerospace and defense embedded computing applications.

ASHBURN, Va., 26 March 2014. The Curtiss-Wright Corp. Defense Solutions division in Ashburn, Va., is introducing the VPX3-652 Gigabit Ethernet switch module for upgrading aerospace and defense embedded computing applications.

The VPX3-652 has an extremely low power and fast boot architecture and lowers the cost of adding network connectivity into and legacy aerospace and defense systems. The switch is scheduled for full production in mid-2014.

The rugged COTS Gigabit Ethernet switch is for technology refresh requirements of defense and aerospace systems integrators facing pressure to decrease their system size, weight, power, and cost (SWaP-C), Curtiss-Wright officials say.

It provides as many as 20 ports of Ethernet connectivity in one 3U slot with low power. The VPX3-652 is for space-constrained embedded C4ISR and electronic warfare (EW) subsystems to support network communications, within the subsystem and to connect externally to other subsystems within the platform.
