WATERLOO, Ontario, 6 March 2015. Pixus Technologies in Waterloo, Ontario, is introducing the PXS0640 6U AdvancedTCA (ATCA) SlotSaver Shelf backplane databus for aerospace, defense, telecommunications, high-end computing, and networking applications.

The PXS0640 packaging for embedded computing gains two slots of payload card usage and has a 40 40GBASE-KR4 backplane for 40 gigabit-per-second performance. The SlotSaver has shelf managers with dual-redundant switch functionality.

An AdvancedTCA horizontal shelf typically would have to dedicate two slots for redundant switch cards, thus offering only four payload slots. With the PXS0640, the combined switch/shelf manager functionality provides a 6 payload slots for a 50 percent increase in the compute density.

The PXS0640 has a push-pull cooling configuration for thermal management. All of the field replaceable units (FRUs) are hot-swappable, including the Cooling Units, washable filter, power entry modules (PEMs), shelf managers (ShMM), and AC power supplies.

The shelf offers AC and DC options -- as many as 4x AC power supplies in an N+1 configuration and as many as 2x DC PEMs. The AC and DC power can be running at the same time for swapping modules in the field. A 5U shelf with DC-only power is also available.

The six-slot ATCA backplane offers a dual-star configuration, with an option to add a mesh, and an option to add a replicated mesh on the node slots. The shelf manager offers the integration of 40 gigabit-per-second and 1 gigabit-per-second layer three managed switches on the same module.

With two combined shelf managers and switches in the system, there is full redundancy and failover for the shelf managers and switches. For more information contact Pixus Technologies online at www.pixustechnologies.com.
