CONCORD, Calif., 4 Aug. 2015. Calex Mfg. Co. Inc. in Concord Calif., is introducing the QSW DC-DC converter for battery powered applications. The QSW offers a 9-to-36-volt DC input range with an isolated, precisely regulated 12-volt output.
The QSW power electronics device achieves efficiency of 93 percent through the use of high efficiency synchronous rectification, advanced electronic circuitry, packaging and thermal design.
The QSW operates at a fixed frequency and follows conservative component derating guidelines. The 93 percent efficiency rating eases the job of thermal management given the high power density of the 2.39-by-1.54-by-0.5-inch quarter brick package.
The input to output isolation of the QSW is 2250-volt DC. The switching frequency is 275 kHz. The output voltage setpoint accuracy is+/-1 percent. Output noise is 120 millivolts peak to peak. The QSW will operate from a no load condition up to the maximum 12-amp output current.

Line regulation is 0.2 percent, same as load regulation. Load transient overshoot is 5 percent and the load transient recovery time is 500 microseconds. The QSW features ON/OFF with a low OFF idle current of 20 milliamps.
The QSW is protected by over voltage protection, input reverse polarity protection, thermal overload protection and short circuit protection.
The case operating temperature range of the QSW is -40 to 100 degrees Celsius. Storage range is -55 to 125 C. The unit weight is 2.36 ounces. The QSW is also RoHS compliant.
