Rugged 3U VPX embedded computing boards based on Intel Xeon D introduced by X-ES
MIDDLETON, Wis., 21 Sept. 2016. Extreme Engineering Solutions (X-ES) in Middleton, Wis., is introducing four rugged Intel Xeon D-based 3U VPX single-board computers for military and aerospace embedded computing applications that require as many as 16 processor cores and extended-temperature support.
The four new X-ES 3U VPX-REDI boards are the XPedite7670, the XPedite7672, the XPedite7674, and the XPedite7676. These boards are available in versions that operate in temperatures from -40 to 85 degrees Celsius with thermal monitoring to protect the against thermal failure.
The XPedite7670 is a 3U VPX-REDI single board computer with two 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports configured as 10GBASE-KR and two Gigabit Ethernet ports configured as 10/100/1000BASE-T. The secure XPedite7672 is for computationally heavy applications that require maximum data and information.
The XPedite7674 provides secure network interfaces with one 1000BASE-X Gigabit Ethernet interface from the field-programmable gate array (FPGA) and passing two CPU 10 Gigabit 10GBASE-KR Ethernet interfaces through the FPGA. It also supports a user-configurable Xilinx Kintex UltraScale FPGA.
The XPedite7676, meanwhile, integrates Secure COTS technology with a SmartFusion2 security system-on-chip for hosting custom functions to protect data from being modified or observed and offers stringent security capabilities.

Intel Xeon D processors have built-in hardware virtualization that facilitates dynamic provisioning of services, enabling communication service providers to extend network functions virtualization (NFV).
Pairing X-ES embedded single board computer technology with the powerful computing performance of high core-count Intel Xeon D processors allows for expanded networking capabilities, accelerated computing, and unparalleled processing with Xeon-class reliability, availability, and serviceability (RAS).
X-ES embedded single board computers with Intel Xeon D processors are designed and built to address environmental and security challenges inherent in military and aerospace applications, such as class III PCB assemblies, underfill, conformal coating, and a hybrid heatframe to optimize size, weight, power, and cost (SWaP-C).
