COM Express embedded computing module for use in harsh environments introduced by Kontron

AUGSBURG, Germany, 21 Oct. 2016. Kontron in Augsburg, Germany, is introducing the COM Express-bBD7 type 7 computer-on-module (COM) for embedded computing applications that operate in harsh environments.

AUGSBURG, Germany, 21 Oct. 2016. Kontron in Augsburg, Germany, is introducing the COM Express-bBD7 type 7 computer-on-module (COM) for embedded computing applications that operate in harsh environments.

The module is a Xeon D-1500-based COM Express that delivers server-class performance in the COM Express basic standard form factor and is designed according to the Type 7 standard.

The COM Express-bBD7 module has as many as 16 cores, support for 2x 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports, high-speed connectivity from configurable PCI Express lanes for high I/O performance, and supports as many as 32 gigabytes of ECC/non-ECC DDR4 memory.

The Kontron COM Express-bBD7 also is available in industrial-grade versions, and provides operating system support that includes Linux, Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 / 2012, /2012 R2 Windows 7 and 8.1, and VxWorks.

The COM Express-bBD7 module is equipped with Kontron’s Approtect standard hardware-based embedded security. "A powerful plus is that the COM Express-bBD7 embeds Kontron’s Approtect that offers full end-to-end security,” says Peter Müller, head of portfolio management standard products at Kontron.

This latest COM Express introduction extends Kontron’s product family of server-class COM platforms after the launch of its COM Express-bBD6 Type 6 module last year.
