Xeon E-2176M-based 3U OpenVPX computer board for aerospace and defense introduced by Curtiss-Wright
ASHBURN, Va. – The Curtiss-Wright Corp. Defense Solutions division in Ashburn, Va., is introducing the high-performance VPX3-1260 3U OpenVPX single-board computer based on the Intel Xeon E-2176M Coffee Lake processor for aerospace and defense embedded computing applications.
The VPX3-1260 is for general-purpose mission computing applications that require high processing performance and low power consumption in demanding deployed applications like mission computing, image and display processing, virtualization, and small multi-computer board intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) systems.
The Xeon E-2176M's six-core (12-thread) architecture delivers 2.7 GHz performance that increases to 4.4 GHz with the processor's Turbo Mode. It offers a performance improvement over previous generations of Intel Core i7 and Xeon processors, and is a processing engine for system designers seeking the maximum amount of performance-per-Watt.
The computer board is available in air- and conduction-cooled configurations, and complies to the VITA 48.8 Air-Flow-Through (AFT) cooling standard.
The VPX3-1260 offers as much as 32 gigabytes of dual-channel, high-speed ECC-protected DDR4 memory, rated to 38.4 gigabytes per second. The computer board can accelerate math-intensive applications with more than 500 billion floating point operations per second of AVX2 performance.
In addition, the board supports as much as 256 gigabytes of on-board, Non-Volatile Memory Express (NVMe) Flash storage, and can simplify the integration of the 8th Gen Intel Xeon processor.
The VPX3-1260 is part Curtiss-Wright's Trusted COTS (TCOTS) product family, and has built-in support for Intel's latest cyber security features, including Intel Boot Guard, UEFI Secure Boot, Software Guard Extensions (SGX), and locally encrypted file system security.
The VPX3-1260 has an integrated Intel Graphics P630 engine for enhanced graphics and video. It supports OpenCL, as well as OpenGLR for graphics-intensive applications or serves as a general-purpose graphics processing unit (GPGPU) with performance rated at more than 400 billion floating point operations per second.
The VPX3-1260 comes with software drivers for industry-standard operating environments, including Linux, VxWorks, Green Hills Integrity, Microsoft Windows 10, and LynxOS.
