Air Force readies radar and EW research program to improve target tracking and imaging
WRIGHT-PATTERSON AFB, Ohio, 14 Aug. 2013. U.S. Air Force Researchers are making plans for a program to advance radar and electronic warfare (EW) technology with hardware, software, and algorithms to improve target detection, tracking, imaging, classification, and identification in the midst of enemy RF jamming, spoofing, and other challenging conditions.
Officials of the Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, say they will release a solicitation for the Contested Environment Radio Frequency Exploitation and Research (CERFER) program this fall.
The program will choose a contract to develop models, hardware, software, algorithms, and techniques spanning basic, applied and advanced research for active and passive sensing. Program funding will be about $47.8 million from 2014 to 2018.
The CERFER program will require advances in radar subsystems, particularly in hardware, software, and algorithm solutions to detect, track, image, and identify targets within contested areas. This includes exploiting passive and active signals.
