CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., 15 Oct. 2009. GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms in Charlottesville, Va., is providing MIL-STD-1553 and ARINC 429avionics databus interface cards to Northrop Grumman Corp. in Los Angeles to upgrade the Integrated Avionics System (IAS) of U.S. Marine Corps UH-1Y Super Huey and AH-1Z SuperCobra helicopters.
GE Fanuc is providing its QPMC-1553 PCI Mezzanine Cards (PMCs) and CEI-830 ARINC boards to Northrop Grumman under terms of an order worth about $1 million, company officials say. The commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) databus interface circuit cards are conduction cooled are rugged enough to withstand the shock-vibration of helicopter operations.
GE Fanuc previously supplied the QPMC-1553 to Northrop Grumman, and now is providing a form, fit. and function replacement with improved performance. The UH-1Y and AH-1Z from Bell Helicopter, and are the latest versions of the venerable Marine Corps Huey utility helicopter and Cobra attack helicopter gunship.
The CEI-830 ARINC board provides integrated databus functionality for as many as 32 channels of ARINC 429, ARINC 575, and selected two-wire 32-bit protocols. It provides on-board message scheduling, label filtering, several buffering options, time-tagging, and error detection with support for either 33 MHz or 66 MHz PCI/PMC interfaces.
