Posted by John McHaleHAMBURG, Germany 21 May 2010. Airbus selected Thales to supply in-flight entertainment (IFE) systems for the A350 XWB with its next generation TopSeries IFE system. Thales made the announcement at the Aircraft Interiors EXPO, Hamburg, Germany.The Thales system is an upgradeable and modular platform configured with the required IFE audio/video on-demand functionality that can be enhanced with a different capabilities such as advanced system applications for passengers and crews, connectivity, and personal electronic devices interface. "We are extremely proud to be selected for this aircraft. Our key objective for the A350 XWB TopSeries platform was to introduce our next generation technology that provides both passengers and airlines with dramatic enhancements in functionality, efficiency, and reliability," says Alan Pellegrini, vice president and general manager of Thales' In-Flight Entertainment business. Every aspect of the system, from the head-end to the seat equipment is smaller, lighter, and consumes less power, Thales officials say. Thales has reduced the overall weight and power footprint by enhancing the architecture, integrating new functionalities, and integrating advanced passenger screen designs.
