Northrop Grumman Corp.'s (NYSE:NOC) European air traffic management subsidiary Northrop Grumman Park Air Systems, won follow-on contracts by Norwegian air navigation service provider Avinor for the supply of satellite landing systems at three airport sites and a support program for 21 ground stations in Norway. Northrop Grumman Park Air Systems developed and installed the ground-based elements for the first satellite-based landing system (SLS) for precision approach and landing at Bronnoysund Airport, Norway, which was fully operational in October 2007. Special Category 1 (SCAT-1) airport approach systems are currently installed at Hammerfest, Vadso, Namsos, Batsfjord, and Svolvaer airports and during 2011 will be installed at airports at Forde, Berlevag, Hasvik, Vardo, Stokmarknes, and Mosjoen. The company continues to be a major player in the field of landing systems, in particular satellite-based landing systems, through its participation in the European SESAR program. "Being a partner in the SESAR program allows us to be at the forefront of developments in this area of technology," says Eldar Hauge, managing director of Northrop Grumman Park Air Systems, Norway. "We are pleased to continue our ongoing relationship with Avinor with new installations and support contracts for SCAT-I. This important technology helps to improve safety, particularly at the smaller regional airports in Norway, and forms the basis for our continuing work within SESAR and GBAS."
