WASHINGTON, 30 Sept. 2011. CSSI Inc., offering technical and engineering services, won a contract—valued at more than $6 million and having a one-year base period and four option years—from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for work on its Optimization of Airspace and Procedures in the Metroplex (OAPM) program. CSSI engineers, supporting airspace redesign activities at metroplexes throughout the U.S., will optimize the airspace around up to 21 of the nation’s busiest airports, including: Washington, Dallas, Charlotte, Northern and Southern California, Houston, and Atlanta. The FAA’s OAPM, when completed, will help address such metro area issues as flow congestion, inefficient routing and altitudes, airports in closing proximity, and other factors, such as environmental constraints.
CSSI employees will participate in airspace study teams and support team members in the development of notional airspace and procedure redesign efforts. They also will support design and implementation teams in the design of airspace and procedural efforts through the design and implementation phases, as well as provide program management, documentation, and report development support.
“This is exciting work because we’ll be able to leverage our expertise in air traffic management, airspace safety, and airspace capacity,” says Cynthia Castillo, CSSI president and CEO. “We’re looking forward to getting started and continuing to help the FAA make the skies more efficient.”
CSSI in 2010 won a $280 million contract to provide systems engineering support to the FAA.
