Diamond Aircraft secures Transport Canada certification for four-seat diesel-powered DA42 general-aviation aircraft
LONDON, Ontario, 18 April 2012.General aviation specialist Diamond Aircraft Industries Inc. in London, Ontario, has received certification for the company's regular and special mission versions of the four-seat DA42 NG twin-engine diesel-powered aircraft from Transport Canada in Ottawa, the Canadian government transportation authority.
The DA42 NG, which is intended for private pilots and flight schools, is powered by Diamond’s proprietary Austro Engine AE300 jet-fuel piston diesel engine. Transport Canada certification includes certification of all available optional equipment, including the ice-protection system, with Transport Canada’s validation of the EASA certification for intentional operations in known icing conditions pending.
The DA42 NG comes standard with a Garmin GDU 1040 10 inch flight display; Garmin GDU 1045 10-inch multi function display; Garmin synthetic vision technology; Garmin GDC 74 integrated, digital air data computer; Garmin GMA 1347 digital audio system; Garmin GRS 77 solid-state attitude and heading reference system (AHRS); Garmin GTX 33 integrated mode S transponder; standby instruments of compass, horizon, air speed indicator, and altimeter.
The Diamond Aircraft DA42 NG four-seat twin-engine general-aviation aircraft has two 168-horsepower Austro Engine AE 300 turbocharged, common-rail injected 2.0 liter diesel engines with single-lever electronic engine control.
The aircraft is 28 feet long, eight feet high, and has a 44-foot wing span. The long-range version has 76-gallon fuel capacity with a maximum range of 1,180 nautical miles. The DA42 NG can cruise at altitudes as high as 18,000 feet at a maximum speed of 184 knots.
The aircraft can take off on runways as short as 2,405 feet, and land in as little distance as 2,027 feet.
