AUSTIN, Texas, 16 Oct. 2012. L2 Consulting Services Inc. (L2) gained FAA approval to install the Rockwell Collins IRT-2120 Iridium SATCOM (satellite communications) system on Alaska Airlines’ fleet of 737-800aircraft.

The project, driven by operator requirements, included certification of a new ePhone cabin wireless bulkhead cradle configuration. The STC revision was accomplished via an amendment to L2's 737-800 SATCOM installation Supplemental Type Certificate #ST10928SC. L2 developed the installation engineering, manufactured the installation kits, and provided complete STC revision project management.

The STC amendment project was completed on-time and on-budget while processing prototype integration challenges, according to L2 Technical Services Director Michael Eiras. The prototype system installation was completed at the end of August and 48 more aircraft will be retrofitted over the coming months.
