Northrop Grumman chooses Curtiss-Wright rotary geared actuators for U.S. Marine Corp. Ground/Air Task Oriented Radar
CHARLOTTE, N.C., 29 Nov. 2012. Officials at Northrop Grumman Corp. (NYSE:NOC) selected Curtiss-Wright Controls Inc.’s Rotary Actuator technology for work on the U.S. Marine CorpsGround/Air Task Oriented Radar (G/ATOR) program.
The Curtiss-Wright Controls Flight Systems business group will supply rotary actuators to Northrop Grumman engineers, who will integrate into the program’s Radar Equipment Group Elevation Actuator Hardware Mod Kit. Deliveries under this $1.6 million engineering development contract will continue through the second quarter of 2013.
Curtiss Wright’s rotary geared actuators transmit power from an electric motor to lift and lower the G/ATOR’s flat-screen antenna array. The company’s advanced actuator technology is currently installed on the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter aircraft to control movement of the lead edge flaps on the aircraft’s wings.
G/ATOR, equipped with myriad sensor capabilities, is designed to detect and track a wide variety of threats, including manned aircraft, cruise missiles, and unmanned autonomous systems. G/ATOR’s open, scalable architecture enables digital interoperability and allows new capabilities to be added through software-only updates.
The Curtiss-Wright Controls Flight Systems facility located in Shelby, N.C., will manufacture and ship the products under this contract to Northrop Grumman in Elkridge, Md.
