Paris aircraft sales exceed 1,300 Wednesday, as Airbus and Boeing ink major deals for single-aisle and widebody jets
PARIS, 19 June 2013. Total commercial and general aviation aircraft sales at this year's Paris Air Show in Le Bourget, France, reached 1,309 today as U.S. jetliner maker the Boeing Co. in Seattle made up for lost time and notched 213 aircraft sales of current and future versions of the company's 737 single-aisle passenger jet.
European passenger aircraft giant Airbus in Toulouse, France, announced 110 widebody commercial aircraft sales at Paris Wednesday, bringing its show-leading total to 421 aircraft sales announced.
Through the first three days of the Paris Air Show, Airbus leads aircraft sales announced with 421, Embraer of Brazil is in second place with 381, Boeing is third with 276 aircraft sales announced, next is French passenger turboprop maker ATR with 110, then comes AgustaWestland with 31 helicopters sold, followed by Sikorsky Aircraft with 17 helicopters sold, and finally with Eurocopter with 10 helicopter sales announced.
The business portion of the 2013 Paris Air Show wraps up Thursday, followed by three days of public displays and flight demonstrations. It's the largest show in Europe this year, and is one of the biggest aerospace technology trade shows in the world.
In competition for most aircraft sales announced at Paris, Embraer of São José Dos Campos, Brazil, was fast out of the gate Monday with 365 aircraft sales announced, primarily involving the company's recently announced E2, an updated and fuel-efficient version of the company's E-Jets regional passenger jet family.
Embraer sales tailed off after that, however, with 16 aircraft sales announced Tuesday, and no announcements today.
Traditional Paris sales giants Airbus and Boeing have flip-flopped positions during the first three days of the show. Early on Airbus was announcing sales primarily of the company's newest single-aisle aircraft in the A320 family, while Boeing was selling widebody jets like versions of the 787, 777, and 747.
Today, however, it was Boeing's turn to announce single-aisle jetliner sales, with 33 deals for the company's future fuel-efficient 737 MAX aircraft, and 180 sales of the company's next-generation 737-800 and 737-900ER. Boeing's biggest customer Wednesday was Dublin-based Ryanair with 175 purchases of the Boeing 737-800 narrowbody jetliner.
On Wednesday Airbus turned to widebody jetliner sales, announcing deals for the company's A330-300, A350-900, and A350 XWB jumbo jets. Today's largest Airbus customers were the Air France-KLM Group and Singapore Airlines, which announced deals for 50 Airbus A350-900 widebody jets apiece.
On Wednesday Canadian aircraft maker Bombardier announced seven sales of the company's CRJ1000 next-generation regional jets and Q400 next-generation turboprop passenger planes to Lagos-based Arik Air. Eurocopter in Marignane, France, also made its first sales at Paris Wednesday with a deal for 10 AS350 B3e helicopters to Helipartner Thailand.
