Rugged data storage drive with RAID controller introduced by Phoenix International for avionics and aerospace
ORANGE, Calif., 15 Dec. 2013. Phoenix International Systems Inc. in Orange, Calif., is introducing the RPC 4004 series drive magazine based aviation data storage system with RAID controller technology for avionics and aerospace applications, as well as other rugged uses.
The Phoenix International RPC 4004 series is available in a variety of configurations for 2.5-inch solid-state drives and 2.5-inch hard disk drives.
Each RPC24 converged interface storage array includes two four-port controllers and can be easily configured in the field with eight 16-gigabit Fibre Channel ports, eight 10-gigabit iSCSI ports, or a combination of four 16-gigabit Fibre Channel and four 10-gigabit iSCSI ports.
These storage arrays are backward-compatible with 8-gigabit/4-gigabit Fibre Channel and 1-gigabit iSCSI networking such as switches and host bus adapters. The RPC24 4004 12-gigabit SAS models are backward-compatible with 6-gigabit SAS investments.
All 4004 models are meta-data compatible with previous-generation RPC24 arrays, so that customers can accomplish data-in-place migration by simply upgrading to 4004 generation controllers.
All RPC24 4004 solutions are built on Dot Hill System’s ninth-generation RAID stack, which delivers to 100,000 input/output operations per second (IOPS) from disk, sustained sequential read performance of to 6400 megabytes per second and writes to 5300 megabytes per second.
The Dot Hill RAID Companion Processor (RCP) allows 4004 solutions to deliver dramatic performance gains at aggressive price points. RPC24 4004 solutions also integrate all the performance tuning and optimizations of the previous- generation RPC24 models, which includes streaming performance optimization to handle randomized, sequential workloads.
Phoenix International’s latest firmware uses a proprietary Adaptive Read-ahead Algorithm that analyzes workloads and fine tunes options to optimize the performance of specific kinds of demanding workloads, delivering better response.
The RPC24 4004 series scales to 192 drives and enables systems designers to mix drive types freely, including hard disk drives and solid-state drives.
Phoenix International's SimulCache technology capitalizes on redundant RAID controllers, thus eliminating the performance degradation associated with conventional cache mirroring. The implementation of a high-speed dedicated PCI-Express bus streamlines write performance resulting in overall system responsiveness, driving faster application throughput.
Dual-redundant RAID controllers, dual power supplies and dual fans bring uptime figures to 99.999 percent availability, so customers don't experience downtime or data loss.
With a capacity of 24 drives, the RPC24 4004 series includes two removable magazines containing as many as 12 solid-state disks or hard disk drives, each housed in rugged 2U panel height, 19.5-inch deep enclosure.
Incorporating aluminum and steel in its rugged construction, it series weighs only 51 pounds with a complement of 24 solid-state drives, is less than 20 inches deep and is certified to military specifications MIL-STD-810G and MIL-STD-461E.
