Kontron introduces rugged embedded computing switches for commercial and military avionics
POWAY, Calif., 10 Nov. 2014. Kontron in Poway, Calif., is introducing the AIRES line of rugged switch products for harsh-environment avionics networking embedded computing applications in military and commercial avionics, mining, smart grid, homeland security, rail transportation, and oil & gas applications.
The first product in the rugged, IP67 sealed avionics switch family measures 1.75 by 6.5 by 8.5 inches and offers 16x gigabit Ethernet ports with direct locking connectors.
A second version measures 2 by 6.5 by 8.5 inches and has four 38999 MIL Circular connectors supporting four Gigabit Ethernet ports per connector. Both versions have 28-volt DC power input for vehicle or aircraft and operate fanless in temperatures from -40 to 71 degrees Celsius.
AIRES has high-temperature components and an optimized thermal solution, and provides a combination of port count, connector type, and power supply options and also offers a variety different front I/O versions and power supply options.
Based on select components from embedded roadmaps, the Kontron AIRES family provides long-term availability minimizing the risk of unplanned design changes and unexpected application modifications.
