Xsight Systems runway management system gains remotely activated auditory deterrence to reduce bird-strike threats on airport runways
SALT LAKE CITY, 19 Dec. 2014. Xsight Systems has expanded the capabilities of its BirdWize runway management product to reduce bird strikes on airport runways.
BirdWize remotely activated auditory deterrence enables airport personnel to manage runway bird hazards from the convenience of the wildlife or operations center. This new built-in deterrence capability strengthens BirdWize' comprehensive automatic bird recognition technology leading to more effective bird hazard management and clearer, safer runways, according to a company spokesperson.
BirdWize includes real-time bird detection and recognition, instant alerts to the wildlife team, documentation, and remotely activated auditory deterrence.
BirdWize meets or exceeds the requirements of the FAA AC -- Airport Foreign Object Debris (FOD) Detection Equipment. The product is an enhancement of FODetect, Xsight Systems' automated FOD detection solution based on hybrid radar-optical sensing technology using sophisticated algorithms, advanced image processing software, and close range detection.
"Runways are the production line of the airports – they demand streamlined, efficient, and safe operations,” notes Xsight Systems President/CEO Alon Nitzan. “We are very proud to launch a comprehensive solution, changing the paradigm as to how runways are managed, and introducing once again, innovative technology to the airfield."
Xsight Systems automatic FOD detection solution is installed at Boston Logan Airport in Mass., and is currently under way for installation at Seattle Tacoma International airport in Wash. Xsight Systems technology is operational at leading airports around the world, including Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International Airport and Tel-Aviv Ben-Gurion International Airport. The company’s FODspot subsystem was acquired by Paris CDG International Airport.
Xsight Systems is a provider of advanced runway sensor solutions, chosen by airports worldwide. Solutions from Xsight Systems, having exceeded FAA regulatory requirements and have been adopted by major airports and by top-tier integrators, such as Thales Group and Leidos, officials say.
