Helibras selects rugged, integrated airborne video management system from Curtiss-Wright
ASHBURN, Va., 4 Dec. 2015. Officials at Helicópteros do Brasil S.A (Helibras), a Brazil-based helicopter manufacturer and wholly owned subsidiary of Airbus Helicopters, a division of Airbus Group, sought video management technology for integration on law-enforcement and public-safety rotorcraft. They found their solution at Curtiss-Wright Corp.’s Defense Solutions division in Ashburn, Virginia.
Curtiss-Wright Defense Solutions is providing Helibras with its integrated Video Management System (VMS), to be integrated into EC 145 helicopters flown by the Policia Militar de Rio de Janeiro for public security video surveillance missions. The EC 145 helicopters will be used during the Olympic Games 2016 in Rio de Janeiro.
The Policia Militar de Rio de Janeiro requested Curtiss-Wright’s VMS, officials say, for its cost-effectiveness, integrated hardware system, support for software configuration, and comprehensive services, including end-user training.
The Curtiss-Wright video management system technology combines ease of use with flexible configuration for varying mission profiles, says Lynn Bamford, senior vice president and general manager, Defense Solutions division. “This is our first business in Brazil for our VMS products and we look forward to continued growth through our collaboration with Helibras.”
Curtiss-Wright video management systems include mission displays, video distribution, video recording, switching, and streaming technology for police, customs, coast guard, border patrol, military, search & rescue, air ambulance, and government agency aircraft and ground law enforcement applications. These tightly integrated systems speed time to market and reduce pilot and observer workload through ease of use, officials explain.
Curtiss-Wright manufactured the products covered by this agreement at its facility in Letchworth, U.K. The products were shipped to Helibras in Brazil.
