HIAWATHA, Iowa. Engineers at Crystal Group, designer/manufacturer of rugged computer hardware in Hiawatha, Iowa, have redesigned and integrated its rugged rackmount computer series with the latest Intel Xeon scalable processor family powered by Skylake. The next generation of Crystal Group’s rugged rackmount products includes such enhancements as a substantial jump in compute performance, greater scalability, increased security, and more agility to adapt to changing technologies – capabilities critical in today’s rapid technology transformations, officials say.

“Translating evolving technology into direct benefits for our customers is one of our most important responsibilities,” says Crystal Group Executive Vice President of Engineering Jim Shaw. “We are taking full advantage of the new Xeon Scalable Processor architecture to build our next generation of rugged rackmount computers. These devices will deliver the most advanced solution, optimized to withstand tough conditions such as, shock, vibration, extreme temperature, sand, and dust under full CPU load.”

Crystal Group’s updated rugged rackmount computer product line with Intel Xeon Scalable Processing technology, employs multiple cores for enhanced processing capability, greater CPU and GPU performance, reduced power consumption, and an improved power/performance ratio.

The new line of rugged rackmount computers is ideal for a variety of applications requiring high compute capability, reliability, and performance in harsh environments including:

  • Artificial intelligence (AI)
  • Autonomous vehicles
  • Communications
  • Monitoring & surveillance
  • Sensor fusion
  • Signal awareness
  • Situation analysis
  • Spectrum analysis
  • Video recording

The new Xeon-class rugged computer lineup will join the company’s 6th and 7th Generation Core i7/i5/i3 equipped RE1218M and RE1312 rugged embedded computers, available now in Crystal Group’s rugged computer solutions.

Crystal Group’s next-generation rugged rackmounted products with Xeon Scalable Processor technology will be available in the fourth quarter of 2017.
