TSA debuts state-of-the-art checked baggage inspection system at Long Beach Airport
LONG BEACH, Calif., - The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has completed certification on an upgraded and fully automated Checked Baggage Inspection System (CBIS) to screen the checked luggage of travelers departing Long Beach Airport (LGB). The installation of the new system coincides with the completion of a new ticketing lobby, which will open to passengers on May 4, 2022. 2 May 2022 - The CBIS features a network of conveyor belts that sorts and tracks travelers’ checked luggage, moving it seamlessly from the airline ticket counter, through the security screening process and onto the area where the luggage is loaded onto the aircraft. By law, TSA is required to screen all checked luggage for explosives and other security threats that could be catastrophic on an aircraft.
“We are grateful to our partners at Long Beach Airport for their investment in a state-of-the-art checked baggage screening system. This new, high-capacity upgrade will ensure that TSA’s screening operations are efficient while delivering the highest level of security, which is something travelers have come to expect,” said TSA Federal Security Director Keith Jeffries who oversees agency operations at LGB.
