eVTOL air taxis from Archer Aviation, Joby Aviation, and more could take flight at the East 34th Street Heliport in the coming years, Jack Daleo writes for Flying.

NEW YORK - FBO network Atlantic Aviation is preparing to install charging stations for electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) air taxis in the heart of New York City. The Military & Aerospace Electronics take:

23 October 2024 - Atlantic is preparing to install electric charging infrastructure at its terminal at the East 34th Street Heliport (6N5) in Manhattan after securing a five-year extension with NYCEDC. This heliport serves flights across New York City, including for NYU’s Langone Health Center.

As part of efforts to support electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, Atlantic will install both Combined Charging System (CCS) and Global Electric Aviation Charging System (GEACS) chargers. These chargers will cater to eVTOL manufacturers Joby Aviation and Archer Aviation, who have announced plans to use the site in partnership with Delta and United Airlines. The CCS, initially designed for electric ground vehicles, is being adopted by various eVTOL manufacturers, while Joby has developed its own universal GEACS system. Atlantic is working with Joby, Archer, and Beta Technologies to prepare that certified eVTOL models can operate at the heliport once FAA approval is granted.
