The contract involves the installation of over 100 new scanners.

FRANKFURT, Germany - Fraport, the operator of Frankfurt Airport in Germany, has signed an agreement with technology firm Rohde & Schwarz in Munich to install 100 new security scanners across existing and future security lanes at the airport. The equipment, to be delivered over the next three years, is aimed at enhancing security and operational efficiency.

The contract was awarded based on the performance of the R&S QPS201 scanner, which combines advanced detection capabilities with streamlined, user-friendly processes. The scanners employ millimeter-wave technology and artificial intelligence (AI)-driven algorithms to detect prohibited items while reducing false alarms, according to the company.

This move follows Fraport's assumption of responsibility for managing aviation security checkpoints at Frankfurt Airport, a role transferred from the German Federal Police in 2023. The new responsibilities also include procuring security equipment.

"We’re proud to be part of this new model at Germany’s biggest airport and to have gained Fraport's trust. This is the continuation of a long-term strategic partnership that is beneficial for both sides," said Andreas Hägele, head of Microwave Imaging at Rohde & Schwarz.

Sascha König, Fraport AG's Senior Vice President of Aviation Passenger Process, emphasized the investment in updated technology: "We’re pleased to be installing modern passenger scanners from Rohde & Schwarz at the security checkpoints over the coming months. We’re continuing to work with our partners to roll out our modernization program for passenger checkpoints at Germany's biggest aviation hub. By using state-of-the-art technology, we’re providing our customers and passengers with faster and more convenient security checkpoints, while maintaining the same high security standards."
