Archer Aviation and UAE organizations collaborate on eVTOL operations
ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Archer Aviation Inc. has entered a partnership with several UAE and Abu Dhabi organizations to prepare for electric air taxi operations in Abu Dhabi. The agreement aims to launch the region's first commercial electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) flights.
The Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO) will coordinate efforts among local stakeholders, including Abu Dhabi Airports, Falcon Aviation Services, and the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), among others. Each organization will contribute to establishing the infrastructure and regulatory framework for the project.
“This partnership marks a major milestone in accelerating smart mobility solutions,” said ADIO Director General Badr Al-Olama.
Archer’s Midnight aircraft is central to the project, with GCAA working on regulatory approvals following a recent workshop at Archer’s U.S. facility.

Archer Aviation’s Midnight is an electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft designed for sustainable urban air mobility. Tailored for short trips of approximately 20 miles, it can achieve a maximum range of 100 miles and is equipped with rapid charging capabilities to enable frequent operations.
The aircraft features six tilting rotors for vertical lift and fixed wings for efficient forward flight, delivering quieter and smoother performance compared to traditional helicopters. It accommodates four passengers and a pilot, with an emphasis on safety through advanced systems and redundancies designed to meet rigorous aviation certification requirements.
Powered by innovative electric propulsion technology, the Midnight reduces noise and emissions, promoting environmentally friendly travel. Archer says its aircraft offers faster connections between city centers, airports, and surrounding areas while alleviating traffic congestion.
The collaboration positions Abu Dhabi as a leader in advanced transportation systems. “We are committed to launching electric air taxis safely in the UAE,” said GCAA Director General Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi.
The initiative underscores Abu Dhabi's focus on innovation in sustainable urban mobility and next-generation air transport.
