28 January 2025 -Since the late 1970s, aviation has relied heavily on large hubs to manage passenger traffic, but increasing congestion is driving a shift toward regional and smaller airfields. Advances in technology are making this shift more practical, though challenges remain—chiefly, the high costs of staffing and equipping small airfields.

To address this, Indra in Madrid, Spain has introduced its InNOVA air traffic control system, allowing multiple airfields to be managed remotely from a central hub. At Norway's Remote Tower Centre in Bodø, this system oversees up to 48 airports, proving that even modest airfields can operate efficiently with innovative solutions.
