Bombardier has selected Siemens’ NX software for 3D modeling, simulation, and manufacturing, as well as Capital software for electronic and electrical system design.

PLANO, Texas - Bombardier is expanding its use of Siemens Digital Industries Software to further digitize and streamline aircraft development, the companies announced. The Canadian aerospace manufacturer will incorporate additional tools from the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio, which the companies say will improve engineering efficiency and modernize its product development workflow.

Bombardier has chosen Siemens’ NX software for 3D modeling, simulation, and manufacturing, along with Capital software for designing electronic and electrical systems. These tools will enhance Siemens' Teamcenter platform, which Bombardier in Montreal has utilized since 2018 for product lifecycle management (PLM). The integration seeks to establish a seamless digital thread linking mechanical and electrical design processes throughout the aircraft lifecycle.

"Bombardier’s selection of a wider set of software from the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio demonstrates the value the company has realized from using our software as well as the value of a cohesive and comprehensive digital thread to optimize the aircraft development process and accelerate delivery of innovation," said Todd Tuthill, vice president of Aerospace & Defense Industry at Siemens Digital Industries Software.

In addition, Bombardier has adopted Siemens' Mendix low-code platform to improve internal efficiency. The company’s first Mendix-based application enhances search capabilities by linking external data with Teamcenter, supporting faster and more secure access to information while reducing IT workload.

"We are pleased to be working closely with Siemens to enhance and optimize our digital aircraft development process," said Glenn Chapnik, senior director of Engineering at Bombardier. "With the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio, we can transform our processing capabilities and maximize all parts of the manufacturing process, seamlessly ensuring a solid pathway for further acceleration and innovation."

The collaboration also extends to workforce development. Bombardier and Siemens in Plano, Texas, are partnering with universities and technical schools to give students access to Siemens software, helping them develop relevant skills for careers in the aerospace sector.

"Using Siemens Xcelerator provides an integrated solution spanning across engineering disciplines and downstream users, which could facilitate the use of consistent processes and leverage collaboration across the enterprise," Chapnik added. "Bombardier looks forward to what we can achieve from these capabilities."
