Riyadh Air to debut Panasonic’s new in-flight entertainment authoring platform
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates - Riyadh Air will become the launch customer for Panasonic Avionics Corporation’s new in-flight entertainment (IFE) authoring platform, Modular Interactive (MI), the companies announced. The MI system will be integrated with Panasonic’s Astrova IFE system when Riyadh Air begins operations in 2025.
Panasonic in Forest Lake, Calif., describes MI as the first interactive IFE authoring platform in the industry. The system enables airlines to update content, tailor promotions, and personalize seatback screens based on passenger behavior, loyalty tiers, or flight routes without traditional software development cycles.
"We are honored that Riyadh Air has chosen Modular Interactive for their Astrova IFE launch," said Andrew Mohr, Vice President of Digital Solutions at Panasonic Avionics. "Working side-by-side with the airline’s digital channels - web and mobile - we believe MI will help create a seamless, personalized guest experience throughout the journey."
MI Studio, the platform’s core design tool, allows airline staff to customize layouts, themes, and promotions while previewing changes in real time. The cloud-based system also supports dynamic content updates and A/B testing campaigns, enabling data-driven adjustments to increase passenger engagement.
Panasonic says MI eliminates the long development and certification cycles typically required for in-flight system updates. Airlines can modify branded elements, apps, or service activations without additional software installations or flight testing.
Once in operation, Riyadh Air will be able to deploy customized IFE experiences across different cabin classes and flight types with a single platform, while integrating those updates into a broader digital strategy encompassing pre-flight and post-flight engagement.
Riyadh Air is positioning itself as a technology-forward airline blending modern systems with traditional Saudi hospitality. It is scheduled to begin commercial service next year.
