Lightweight composite backshells for rugged connectors in aviation applications introduced by Souriau
YORK, Pa. – Souriau USA in York, Pa., is introducing the lightweight One Arm composite connector backshell for defense, aerospace, and other harsh-environment applications.
The One Arm backshell family comes in three configurations: straight, 45-degree, and 90-degree. It is designed to satisfy requirements for all sizes of MIL-DTL-38999 Series I, II, and III connectors.
The One Arm provides not only support and strain relief to open wire bundles, but it also offers a grounding option with its solderable ground lug.

Due to its flexibility, this new product also can support different plating combinations to suit the needs of specific aviation applications.
The One Arm also is designed to be cost-effective and reliable, with high grade thermoplastic materials for critical applications and environments -- especially on military and commercial electrical wiring interconnect system (EWIS) applications.
The One Arm's composite families use high grade engineered thermoplastic and are not prone to electromagnetic disturbance, stealth ability, and offer strong resistant to vibration.

The connectors have low harmonic resonance because it weighs 40 percent less than aluminum. This weight savings also can contribute to fuel savings and a lighter environmental footprint per aircraft.
The development of One Arm technology also provides detent self-locking -- a ratcheting coupling ring using non-corrosive clips. The audible ratcheting noise during the installation process guarantees correct engagement.
