Engineers at GTE Government Systems Corp. in Taunton, Mass., needed a versatile and rugged power supply for the mobile workstations acquired by the U.S. Army through the Common Hardware Software-2 (CHS-2) program. The rugged-uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) series from Acumentrics Corp. in Westwood, Mass., met their needs.
The CHS-2 program, a U.S. Department of Defense contract vehicle for the acquisition of tactical command and control computer systems for the U.S. Army, is designed to provide commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) computers from high-performance workstations and servers that run specialized and general-purpose software.
The Acumentrics devices can work with the TRAC and Humvees as well as other vehicles under the CHS-2 contract, says Chris Marzelli director for commercial hardware system organization at GTE. The UPSs can convert power from any source and operate on-line, which means the devices never turn off, he says.
The Acumentrics Rugged-UPS series will protect the Army`s voice, video, and data communications services against power disruptions, and enable use of the computer equipment in all electrical environments worldwide. - J.M.
