Engineers at Harsh Environment Applied Technologies (H.E.A.T.) Inc., of Annapolis, Md., needed an imaging platform to boost situational awareness systems in armored vehicles.
They found a solution with the Flexivision III electro-optical (EO) sensor video processing system from Barco in Kortrijk, Belgium.
Flexivision III combines visualization, networking, and image processing into one system. It features image-warping and image-fusion capabilities connected to Eyesafe Laser Rangefinder (ELRF) and other sensors to enhance real-time situational awareness for the vehicle’s commander.
This platform will be able to warp, scale, and fuse image-intensified infrared (NIR I2), mid-wave infrared (MWIR), and long-wave infrared (LWIR) video inputs onto a 1280-by-1024-pixel display.
This multiboard system consists of a main carrier board and various mezzanine boards that provide a variety of image enhancement functions. For integration into its situational awareness system, H.E.A.T. has ordered Barco’s Flexivision III PCI carrier board along with a customized video engine. H.E.A.T. engineers will integrate it into their ArmorVision integrated multiple waveband sensor system for armored and remote vehicle systems. For more information, see www.barco.com.
