Experts at the U.S. Air Force at Hanscom Air Force Base in Lexington, Mass., and Lockheed Martin in Fort Collins, Colo., needed a high-speed common software application interface and software development environment for different computer platforms on the Theater Battle Management Core Systems (TBMCS). They found the solution in VISION/Web from Unify Corp. in San Jose, Calif.

John Steiling, TBMCS program director at Hanscom. Unify officials say VISION/Web is the first client/server development environment to generate Java code automatically, without the need for users to know Java programming. The tool enables developers to build high-end transactional applications that run on Web and traditional clients and servers, according to a company statement.
TBMCS is an Air Force program that will provide tactical forces with a seamless, automated command, control, communications and intelligence system for planning and executing air campaigns to support multi-service U.S. and multi-national battle operations.
TBMCS will re-engineer current independent systems into a software architecture that can continue to execute the current systems while providing a plug and play capability for future growth. - J.M.
