ISCAN eye-tracker gets platinum recognition in 2016 Technology Innovation Awards
NASHUA, N.H., 16 Nov. 2016. Electro-optics experts at ISCAN Inc. in Woburn, Mass., have received a platinum award in the 2016 Military & Aerospace Electronics and Intelligent Aerospace Technology Innovation Awards for the company's OmniView eye-tracking system.
The ISCAN OmniView system was part of the top of three tiers of this year's Technology Innovation Awards. The top award level is platinum, the middle tier is gold, and the third tier is silver.
Military & Aerospace Electronics and Intelligent Aerospace made awards to company entries that offer solutions to difficult aerospace and defense electronics design challenges. The awards were presented on 14 Nov. 2016.
The ISCAN OmniView is a binocular real-time head-mounted eye-tracking system for aircraft pilots or military ground vehicle drivers. It is an indicator for human factors assessment in military training to overcome limits to conventional eye trackers for military and avionics human factors and training applications.
The system tracks the user's eye position and overlays a point of gaze cursor that shows precisely where the user is looking. It is designed to work under real flight or vehicle operating conditions.
The intrinsic speed and precision of the human oculomotor system makes the eye an ideal biological indicator for human factors assessment and training in military applications, ISCAN officials explain.
The system can help determine, for example, if trainee infantrymen notices waypoints, if novice pilots conduct the pre-flight check properly, if the layout of a new cockpit helps or hinders the pilot's field of view, and how quickly vehicle driver notices a threat or warning indicator.
ISCAN worked with the U.S. Army and University of Iowa to develop the OmniView real-time head-mounted eye tracking system that can solves technical problems that have limited conventional eye trackers for human factors and training applications in military and in avionics operational environments.
