General Dynamics to add chemical-threat-detection-on-a-chip technology to infantry software-defined radio

TAUNTON, Mass., 4 Sept. 2011. Leaders of the U.S. Global Broadcast Service (GBS) Joint Program Office at Hanscom Air Force Base, Mass., needed satellite communications equipment for GBS connectivity. They found their solution from General Dynamics C4 Systems in Taunton, Mass. General Dynamics C4 Systems engineers will provide as many as 1,500 Transportable Ground Receive Suites (TGRS) and 1,110 retrofit kits for systems already in the field in a contract potentially worth as much as $900 million. The five-year indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract is for receive terminal antennas as well as receive broadcast management and cryptographic equipment packed in mobile transit cases.

GBS TGRS equipment is for rapid deployment anywhere in the world, General Dynamics officials say.GBS TGRS equipment deploys at the edge of the battlefield, and enables decision makers and front-line troops in joint operations to receive mission-critical information via high-speed, high-volume multimedia communications.

General Dynamics will do most of the work on the contract in Taunton, Mass. The General Dynamics SATCOM Technologies facility in Richardson and Kilgore, Texas and in Newton, N.C., will provide the antennas, RF equipment, and transit cases.
