Aerospace firms modify Bombardier Q400 commercial aircraft and avionics for maritime, ISR missions
GREENVILLE, Texas, 15 Feb. 2014. Prime contractor L-3 Mission Integration, in collaboration with Bombardier Aerospace, Marshall Aerospace, and Cascade Aerospace, announces a modified version of Bombardier’s Q400 commercial aircraft for multimission maritime and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) missions.
The multimission, extended-range Q400 aircraft, well suited for maritime patrol and surveillance operations, is customized for “longer mission endurance and lower operating costs than other maritime and ISR aircraft in use today,” says Mark Von Schwarz, executive vice president of ISR Systems for L-3 Integrated Systems Group and president of L-3 Mission Integration. He anticipates that Bombardier’s Q400 aircraft design combined with L-3’s high-performance mission system will meet “the most demanding maritime and ISR requirements – anywhere, anytime.”
L-3 Mission Integration provides complex ISR, command and control, and secure communications systems, as well as the missionization, modernization, and maintenance of aircraft and ground systems.
