High-reliability spring-loaded connectors for sliding or rotating blind mating uses introduced by Mill-Max
OYSTER BAY, N.Y. – Mill-Max Mfg. Corp. in Oyster Bay, N.Y., is introducing the 0945-0-15-20-09-14-11-0 Omniball spring-loaded interconnect product to make sliding or rotating connections.
Omniball contacts are for twist-and-lock cable connectors; smart lens camera connectors; rugged and IP rated connectors; docking stations; quick connects; and blind-mating applications.
The Omniball spring-loaded contact features a rolling ball interface to mate components laterally, rotationally and angularly while providing electrical, mechanical, and structural reliability.
The high-reliability Omniball contact is a spring-loaded pin in which a gold-plated ball replaces the traditional plunger to simplify and improve connections between components mated together in a sliding or rotational motion rather than in an axial or vertical orientation.
When engaged, the ball compresses and rolls to allow the mating surfaces to make contact and then slide parallel to each other while spring force acts to maintain consistent electrical contact.
This rolling action helps prevent connector damage from binding, premature wearing, and structural failure. The connector has a 0.3-inch maximum stroke; height of .266 inches; gold plating on all components; and surface mount termination.
These spring-loaded pins are tested to 1,000,000 compression and rolling cycles at half stroke while maintaining contact resistance as high as 20 miliohms; current rating of 3.5 amps; and spring force of 55 grams at mid stroke.
These contacts are available as individual pins and in a four-pin circular connector in tubes and in tape and reel packaging. For more information contact Mill-Max online at www.mill-max.com/PR697.
