Nuclear-hardened 3U OpenVPX rugged computer for vetronics uses introduced by Curtiss-Wright
ASHBURN, Va., 3 June 2015. The Curtiss-Wright Corp. Defense Solutions division in Ashburn, Va. is introducing the nuclear-hardened MPMC-9331 3U OpenVPX rugged mission computer for demanding compute-intensive combat vehicle applications such as ballistic fire control.
The vetronics computer, which company officials say has been qualified for a program of record, complies with Vehicular Integration for C4ISR/EW Interoperability (VICTORY) standards.
The rugged computer has three payload slots, two of which are pre-integrated with a VICTORY-compliant networking and vehicle maintenance module and a Power Architecture processor module. The third payload slot is available for system expansion.
Tested for radiation-tolerant operation at the White Sands Missile Range (WSMR), N.M., the mission computer comes pre-qualified and configured with Curtiss-Wright's COTS VPX3-671 VICTORY Ethernet switch and Power Architecture-based single board computer.

The MPMC-9331 is designed to satisfy the US Army's requirement for Common Ethernet Line Replaceable Module (CEL) solutions. It achieves radiation tolerance through the careful selection of its commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components. It is designed to operate through a nuclear event.
The MPMC-9331 also meets the US Army's Direct Support Test, Measurement, & Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE) reduction application standard for logging and maintenance.
