GRAND-LANCY, Switzerland, 22 Nov. 2016. CES - Creative Electronic Systems in Grand-Lancy, Switzerland, is introducing the CIO5-2040 SWaP optimized dual-processor single-board computer for RF and microwave signal processing applications like radar, signals intelligence (SIGINT), and electronics intelligence (ELINT).

The CIO5-2040 is built using a mirrored architecture implementing two Intel Core i7 Gen5 processors. Feeding the processors are data through four 10 gigabits Ethernet links and three PCI Express Gen3 x8 links routed in the backplane.

When it comes to high-performance embedded computing (HPEC), thermal management and heat dissipation are key factors to enabling the system to provide its full performance even when running at the highest temperature.

To that intent, CES has designed a composite frame, tightly coupled with the CIO5-2040, providing the thermal dissipation of copper while weighing as little as aluminum. As a result, the performance of the board is available even at 85 degrees Celsius and the board together with the frame weigh 30 percent less than its copper-framed counterparts.

A PCI Express switch with three Gen3 x8 links enables designers to connect several CIO5-2040 together to form a computing network. When packed in one system, the application can capitalize on this network to distribute the payload generated by the sensors dynamically, on-demand, across the processors.

Mercury Systems in Chelmsford, Mass., completed its acquisition of CES earlier this month. For more information contact CES - Creative Electronic Systems online at www.ces-swap.com.
